We wanted to create circuit boards that have curvey traces, meandering paths, and multiple soldermask layers, so we developed PCBmodE (say "PCB mode"), an open source Python software that unshackle us from the constraints imposed by traditional PCB design tools. We use the power of Inkscape -- the leading open source vector graphics editor -- to manufacture any shape on any layer. Together with our powerful back-end tools, we can manufacturable beautifully functional boards, where the form contributes to function.
PCBmodE is open source software, licensed under the Apache License. The boards we design are also open source unless our clients do not wish them to be. Go on and download PCBmodE or explore some of the boards we've made.
PCBmodE uses open, free, and well known data standards, such as JSON and SVG, and the boards it produces can be revision controlled. This allows designs made with PCBmodE to be easily diff'd, viewed on a browser, shared, and collaborated on.
